Give Yourself the Permission to Try Again! 2 Life Lessons I Learned about Creativity
sometimes the hardest part of being creative is giving yourself the permission to be!
Ok, i thought about this one for a while, because I thought it had to be this big epic thing… but the reality is that some things are just insanely simple as is, and don’t need some big introduction.
One truly helpful Life Lesson I Learned about Creativity is to:
Give Permission.
What does it mean to give permission?
and to who?
whom am I giving permission to?
YOU!
quick storytime ^_^
so, I shared in another post about how I connected with a mentor that helped me in some pretty powerful breakthroughs in my creative process. The big thing she helped me see clearly, was that if I connected with my inner-child, I could give her the things today, as an adult, that I felt I needed back then as a child. One of those things was the permission to just be me.
I gave myself permission to just be me.
HOT TIP 💖
giving permission to yourself is as easy as closing your eyes, taking a deep breath, and letting go of whatever was there in the way of your happiness.
blocking out all the noise of expectations, judgements, criticisms…
and just doing it anyway.
whatever “it” is for you…
give yourself permission to do it.
…and give yourself permission to do it however you CAN do it.
for me, in that coaching session…
I gave myself permission to be seen publicly.
…meaning, I gave myself permission to post artwork I illustrated online.
I gave myself permission to make videos of my creative process… as messy as it was.
i gave myself permission to show up however I could show up.
As long as I was committed to trying…
I could give myself permission to try …
…and fail.
…and fall.
…and get back up again.
…and fall & fail again.
…and get up again.
…and make more mistakes.
…and learn from it.
…and
Try Again!
This is another Life Lesson I Learned about Creativity that I don’t think people give enough credit to.
Just Try Again!
The more we try,
…the more we give ourselves the opportunity to succeed at whatever it is we are attempting to do!
Even if we fail all together,
…even if we discover, “Ooops! that didn’t go well at all!”
would we have known what was possible if we didn’t at least try?
We may even discover something new & fun!
Or we may meet someone that we form a unique connection with, just from our efforts to try something new!
HOT TIP! 🏀
There’s a saying that you miss 100 shots of the 100 shots you don’t take.
Ok, no quotes on that! 😅
… but i tried to remember, and I think I got close enough to share the point I was trying to make lol 😂
And that is my point.
To try, is to give yourself the opportunity to learn from your experience.
It doesn’t have to be some big epic thing either.
You just have to give yourself permission to try again anyway!
i hope that helps!
…one more thing!
I saw this video today that made me think about all the things:
I didn’t do,
and all the things I did try,
…discovered I was terrible at it,
and somethings I was actually great at,
and somethings that I developed a love & passion for.
what are some things you would like to give yourself permission to try again?
