How to Write a PhD Research Proposal #12 - Publishing!
what happens when we’ve written it, and ready to publish?
Ahh… why am i doing this essay series on how to write a PhD research proposal? Welllllll……. because it’s part of my required assignments to pass this term’s courseload!
Why am I even doing a PhD?!
Honestly… it was just something to do!
Years ago, I thought it would help me be a better writer.
Believe it or not… **doo do doooo yah yah yah i know!**
Being a (published) writer was one of my bucket list dream things to do. I didn’t know how I was going to make that dream come true.
I wrote a lot in my youth, and journaling was everything to me! I wanted to just write a bunch of books about stuff in life… I thought maybe I would just figure it out when I’d grow up.
Well, I grew up… and never really did ‘figure it out’… it just kinda happened, and I realized…
there was nothing to ‘figure out’ — I just had to do the thing.
Just write, and then hit (git push) send! post! publish!
I just had to claim it!
I am a published writer.
yes, yes, there are a lot of steps between writing on napkins, putting em all together, then editing, and if you’re self-published… ya wanna learn about formatting, page margins, center and color bleed bla bla bla.
it’s worth it!
Yes, it is worth learning all of that nerdy stuff about margins and rulers and so on.
The last (pre-recorded) course lecture I watched discussed the process of submitting your research paper to journals to be published. The Professor was really good about being honest, and the truth is that many people don’t get their papers accepted to be published.
There’s big business in using the clout of the journal’s name & brand
… and there are far more researchers wanting to share their work, than there are spaces to share that work in.
…who knew that the published world of research + academia was a popularity contest too?!

Thankfully, there are opportunities to ‘publish’ your work on your own self-hosted website, or 3rd-party hubs like ResearchGate.com and Academia.com …oh and sure Substack too ;) — My point is…
There is an abundance of information to explore in this world, don’t limit yourself to the big-pubs to showcase your work.
This is what the INTERNET was made for!
You do NOT need to go to school, nor get a PhD, to do ‘research’ and ‘publish’ your work!
Just DO it!
DO IT ANYWAY!
make friends + community along the way!
Doing ‘the work’ you feel passionate about is what matters most!
Sharing ‘the work you feel most passionate about’ is what makes it special!
…do with that what you will ;)
Anyhoo!
I can’t share the class lecture here.
However, I can share one of the videos discussed, that is actually on YouTube about the business of scientific research. **See video above^^
…and here is another perspective i found, that I think is pretty spot on about drawing outside the pre-determined lines of publishing:

Have you ever wanted to share your ideas, but maybe weren’t sure how?
Hit me up!
I’d be happy to hype you up! It’s good to talk about it!
If you have any recommendations on AI related research, I’m also grateful to check them out too! thanks in advance!
It is funny how people forget you can just do things. A lot of misconceptions around "standard practices" somehow being "magic barriers."
