In the Beginning, there was a draft, and many points of feedback
Ok, here is what you came to this essay series for! The raw phd student writing process… 🤓📝 >> 📚😭
Introduction/Abstract Assignment prompt:
Write the introduction paragraph to your research proposal. Include your research question in the paragraph.
😮
wuh
just like that?
but how?
how do i write an abstract/introduction to a proposal that doesn't exist?
how do i summarize from nothing?
… I PROCRASTINATED SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!
the due date was approaching fast at midnight… and i struggled so much for days that I had to just literally pray to the phd-gods to put some words in my head to put on paper to get this assignment done.
… once i stopped overthinking it… i got it done in 30mins.
i basically had to attempt to think it thru backwards.
pretend i am writing the actual experiment out.
just journal out some made-up blaaa blaaa stuff.
…then edit it down …going backwards
…and create a summary of my made-up bs research idea.
…then create a concise research question from the summary i just wrote.
smh.
my brain could not comprehend any other way of doing this assignment.
How would you have done it?
Here is the actual introduction draft I wrote for my research proposal.

Research Question:
Why do people believe AI-enhanced interactive programs, like LLMs and AI-Assistant Agents, hold more conscious qualities than non-personified computer program interactions?
Abstract:
The rise of interest in technological advances has a big impact on the evolution of society. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) are shaping how people adapt to changes in the workforce, as well as how quickly they process and consume information. The popularity of AI has grown in the past couple years as there has been an increase of demand for virtual assistant agents, personalized chatbots, and other interactive applications. Some AI agents are even beginning to replace roles that humans relied on for interactions to fulfill needs of attention, intimacy or similar emotional connections (APA, 2024). Some users of AI chatbots and advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) are so impressed with the conversational responses, that they begin to wonder if the AI has its own digital human-like consciousness (Lawrence, et. al, 2024). Why do people believe AI-enhanced interactive programs, like LLMs and AI-Assistant Agents, hold more conscious qualities than non-personified interactive computer programs? The research gathered on investigating this question looked at qualitative and quantitative feedback from several users of AI applications to confirm if there is infact a digital human-like consciousness spawned from the computer itself. Research into the development code of different LLMs served as a baseline understanding of what types of AI applications were more widely reported to express human-conscious qualities in their responses.
Literature Review
First look for literature review examines journal articles from Lawrence, et. al, 2024 on The Opportunities and Risks of Large Language Models in Mental Health. Next reviewed is an article from the APA on AI in the Field of Psychology.

The research gathered qualitative and quantitative feedback from several users of AI applications to confirm if there is infact a digital human-like consciousness spawned from the computer itself. Results
Results are currently inconclusive, however data collective is still ongoing to discover any new patterns or interesting anomolies.

my professor already melted my brain when he asked me to "Define what Consciousness is?" 😭
